Hummus is one of those things that I believe you should make, not buy. It's super easy and the stuff you make at home is almost always better than what you can by at the supermarket. Here's how to make your own.
What's important here is to make hummus to your preference. I've listed my favourite recipe below, but you can add more garlic or more lemon juice if you want and leave out the cumin and paprika and you should still get a pretty good hummus.
Prep time: 20 mins
What you'll need:
- 2 cups of canned chickpeas, drained
- 1/2 cup tahini
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2 garlic cloves
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- A splash of water (varies on consistency - add as you see fit)
- 1/2 tablespoon of cumin (optional)
- 1/2 tablespoon of paprika (optional)
Add all of your ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Add water as needed to get the mixture moving. Once you're happy with the consistency, taste and adjust seasoning to your preference.
Serve however you goddamned like.
